ODDA x Robert Neal

Spent the day walking around with skateboarder Robert Neal and his two French bulldogs for ODDA magazine. We had a bunch of different looks to shoot and only a few hours because the sun sets at 4pm in Los Angeles these days… In terms of crew, there was no crew. Just me and my personal camera, super run-and-gun style. Had a lot of fun on this one.

Sahara

A woman suspects her husband is emotionally cheating on her with their smart speaker.

Got back to basics a little bit with this ultra-short script and 1 day shoot, mostly just using what we had available. I’m not sure what I wanted to achieve with this one other than make people uncomfortable.

Drone Test 6 - C4D & Octane Render

A first attempt at doing photorealistic CGI— I modeled and textured the drone from scratch in Cinema 4D and did all the materials using Octane Render nodes. The background and lighting comes from an HDRI image. For me this is just adult LEGOs.

Gene From The Hotline

Gene, a newly minted genie on his first day of work, comes prepared to grant Dan three wishes to save his life, but Dan just has the one: to die.

One of the few projects I’ve co-directed, with a close friend from USC Michael Lappen who directed Piggy Bank Proposition (the thesis film I DPd). We wanted to shoot something over the summer with friends to work those directing muscles a bit. I wrote the script.

On the day my voice actually went out, so working with. Michael was crucial to communicate with the actors. I learned sometimes with these projects you each fall in love with different aspects of the film. I think I really put a lot of myself into the character of Gene played by Lee Grober. Michael seemed to contribute a lot more to Dan played by Justin Powell. Both of them were fantastic to work with.

We pulled two overnight shoots and I can’t believe our friends were okay with doing that unpaid but hey at least we were having fun. Full credits on my Vimeo.

We submitted the film to the Blackmagic Design film festival and ended up winning both the audience choice prize and grand jury prize, and we each took home a Blackmagic Pocket Cam 6K that night.

Dog Days in Sa Pa

A little travel doc I shot on my 5D III using Magic Lantern firmware. Visited Vietnam with my girlfriend and did a homestay in SaPa in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I’m Lucky…
